What a wonderful time of year! A time to reflect personally and professionally. I hope each of you will do so, as well. Find time to relax and enjoy the warmth of relationships made, your family and friends, and the new skills and learnings obtained along the way. Perhaps think about growth or a new career move you anticipate in the coming year. Working in healthcare, we see and experience change every day. Make it a goal to take advantage of opportunities brought about by these changes.
NAHQ is committed to your professional development and lifelong learning. The organization has served as the professional home for so many of us and will continue to have an impact both on our professional journeys and our collective contribution to advancing the profession.
Without a doubt, one of the 2017 standouts is NAHQ Next in Cincinnati, where I had the honor of meeting so many of you, as we learned together. More than 1,300 attended. NEXT year's event is in Minneapolis, and we expect that this, too, will be another opportunity to network with colleagues and vendors from around the country and gain practical information to take back to the workplace.
NAHQ has also announced a partnership with Jefferson College of Public Health, which offers NAHQ members a tuition discount on its master’s program in healthcare quality and safety. And, BIG news, if you’re a CPHQ, you can apply three credit hours toward the master’s degree.
NAHQ was also on the road in 2017, exhibiting at other conferences. You may have seen us at:
- ASQ in Charlotte, NC
- NPSF in Orlando, FL
- QSEN in Chicago
- And this week, we were at the IHI National Forum in Orlando.
NAHQ's increased effort to be 'out and about' has given us the opportunity to connect with current members and CPHQs and to meet new quality professionals. We want to be the friendly face you see at events, and we love when you stop to tell us how proud you are to be a NAHQ member and CPHQ. I’ve represented NAHQ at these meetings, and it’s exciting to meet so many of you. We work in diverse settings and find value from varied learnings and associations, but the CPHQ remains our common thread!
Speaking of the CPHQ, I just recertified mine this year. Thanks to my NAHQ membership, it was so easy to obtain the CPHQ CEs I need and want. I can’t reiterate enough how valuable the complimentary CE activities are especially for those NAHQ members who also have the CPHQ. Simply put, you don’t need to look further than NAHQ to fulfill your CE requirement for recertification.
And, remember when I told you we reached a major milestone: 10,000+ active certificants? Well, it turns out we are ending the year at close to 11,000. Your commitment to professional development helps NAHQ meet our mission of supporting a coordinated, competent workforce. I truly believe that every healthcare quality professional is a CPHQ in training so I cannot wait to see our numbers grow in the coming year.
NAHQ has seen incredible numbers this past year, and check out this infographic for a glimpse at your engagement with us.
Thank you for choosing NAHQ as your professional home. Serving as your President this year has been an incredible honor as we’ve worked towards unprecedented growth and partnership in directions that will help you to grow as a healthcare quality professional. I wish for each of you a joyous holiday season and look forward with great hope and excitement to the coming year!
