NAHQ — Your Professional Advocate

NAHQ — Your Professional Advocate

It’s no secret that the healthcare industry continues to evolve on the path to value. Change is coming from all directions and it is challenging healthcare professionals across the continuum of care to adapt in their roles. This transformative time presents an opportunity for our profession. Quality, with its potential to improve both patient and financial outcomes, is a key driver of healthcare value. We, as healthcare quality professionals, are the experts, and well poised to take a lead in this transformation.

That’s why NAHQ is preparing its members and healthcare quality professionals to develop the competencies needed in this new era and is working hard to demonstrate that the quality profession is an integral part of any healthcare organization’s performance and growth strategy.

In ensuring our professional development and advocating for our future, I want to recognize three major NAHQ recent and upcoming milestones:

  • This month, NAHQ released its inaugural survey of the healthcare quality workforce in which respondents called for more training and greater staff alignment to improve quality. Read the press release and see our infographic.

  • Recognizing the need for executive support in advancing quality, NAHQ will host a program specifically designed for healthcare c-suite and quality thought leaders: The National Healthcare Quality Summit in Chicago, May 2-3, 2019. The Summit will focus on the value of having a workforce trained in quality competencies with shared learnings on how to make quality a part of an organization’s business strategy. The Summit agenda will feature speakers from healthcare organizations that have made a commitment to quality and the positive outcomes they have achieved as a result.

  • Also in May, NAHQ will release a report on its ground-breaking quality workforce assessment survey conducted in November and December of 2018. The report will discuss the quality profession's progress on current and emerging competencies as well as key quality competencies required to achieve quality-driven healthcare.

Our commitment at NAHQ remains firmly on developing and advancing healthcare quality professionals. With our focus on both individuals and the profession as a whole, we look forward to nurturing your individual learning experiences and our profession’s growing prominence. I hope you will find both an opportunity to participate and benefit from our many offerings and efforts in the coming months.

Yours truly,
Sandra Jones, BSN MSM RN CPHQ CPHRM LNCC
