As we are approaching Thanksgiving in the United States, the ongoing stress and uncertainty of the pandemic is balanced by hopefulness that there is light at the end of the tunnel. With the recent FDA approval of vaccines for children between the ages of 5 and 11, many people are looking forward to the holiday season with a sense of gratitude for the advancements being made. While we are still combatting COVID-19, we are seeing how much we can progress when we pull together and work towards common goals and a common cause.

By belonging to a professional association like NAHQ, we are a part of a community of practice that tests our thinking, provides us with new insights and perspectives, develops our competencies and skills, and ultimately connects us to our chosen profession. Together we are contributing to something bigger than ourselves – something we passionately believe in – improving healthcare quality and patient outcomes.

What makes an organization like NAHQ special is our community. So, I want to thank all of you who have engaged with NAHQ as we work to achieve our mission.

As a member of NAHQ, you are supporting the very infrastructure of our work to develop the competency of the workforce advancing healthcare quality. You both benefit from and contribute to our programs and services. Without you, we would not exist.

By earning and maintaining your Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality® (CPHQ) credential, you are a part of the healthcare quality workforce performing at the highest levels of the Healthcare Quality Competency Framework. You are making a difference in the lives of those you work with and serve. Your dedication to elevating the professional practice of healthcare quality is the key to our ongoing success.

When you engage with the NAHQ Workforce AcceleratorTM and the Professional Assessment, you are making a personal commitment to advance your skills and competencies and those of your teams. You are also providing NAHQ with the data we need to continue to develop competency and skill-based programming that advances the quality workforce across the globe.

By participating in and recommending NAHQ education programs to your colleagues and teams, you are introducing yourselves and others to the competency development that is so critical to the work of healthcare quality. You are also ensuring you will have a long and successful career meeting the needs of those you serve.

When you respond to surveys and engage in benchmarking, you are helping to develop the thought leadership required to make healthcare better now and in the future.

By contributing your talent to NAHQ as a speaker, author, volunteer or promoter you are making sure that we have the talent and expertise we need to achieve our mission and serve our community.

You see, you are the most important factor in the success of NAHQ – your professional home. What you contribute is the lifeblood of our organization. Providing you with what you need to practice and to lead healthcare quality is our compelling purpose. And we are grateful for the opportunity to serve you.

During this time of Thanksgiving, I hope you can reflect with gratitude on what has made your professional life fulfilling this year. I know it has been hard, but we are doing the hard work together. We are here for each other. We are NAHQ.
