COVID-19 is presenting unprecedented challenges to public health and to healthcare delivery. This is unquestionably a troubling time for all of us, both as healthcare professionals and as global citizens. Our response to COVID-19 will have a lasting impact across the globe. And, there is no question that those working in healthcare quality will demonstrate their indispensable value to the healthcare team.

We know that some of you have been asked to leverage data to develop insights for organizational decision-making, while others have been called on to help re-engineer processes and procedures to help reduce the spread of the virus and to keep patients and your colleagues safe. Some of you are developing new screening processes for the virus, and others are working on rapid transitions to telehealth care. Still others are being called on to support population health efforts to minimize the virus in your communities. These examples, along with many more, show the practical value that quality professionals like you contribute to healthcare every day, and most especially, when there is a healthcare crisis.

During times like these, take heart and take time to appreciate that YOU are called on to solve the most urgent challenges in healthcare. You have the competencies to do this work well and you are trusted by your leaders, your colleagues and your patients, and you deserve that honor.
