Dr. Bernard is the founder of, The First Thirty Program, a transition of care program for underserved populations with chronic conditions. She is an advanced practice nurse with experience working in transitions of care, hospice home care, adult/geriatric, and urgent care. She earned her BSN/MSN from Rutgers University and her doctoral degree from Monmouth University. She is medical-surgical certified and the recipient of various awards including the Dr. K. Jennings Dozier Research Award in 2004, the Nursing Excellence Award for Innovation in 2016, the Nursing Scholar Award for Research in 2016, Outstanding Project Results 2015, the APN Excellence award 2018, and Highest Academic Achievement Scholarship Recipient in 2020.
