Interim Regional President & Senior Vice President, Hospital and Health Plan Operations - Kaiser Permanente Northern California

Mike Bowers, FACHE, is the interim Regional President of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals of Northern California. In this capacity, he oversees all of Kaiser Permanente’s care delivery and health plan operations in Northern California.

Mike is also the Senior Vice President for Health Plan and Hospital Operations for Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California region supporting all hospitals and health plan operations. Mike also supports workforce management and operational efficiencies across the market, oversees a diverse and multifaceted portfolio of strategic initiatives, and serves as liaison with Kaiser Permanente’s National Program Offices for all shared services.

Mike brings over 25 years of progressive leadership responsibility and executive experience in large, integrated healthcare systems to the Kaiser Permanente team. He is an innovative leader with distinct experience in operations and financial management, business and service line development, physician relations, board development and organizational performance improvement. Mike’s ability to effectively motivate, communicate and build relationships with his teams has resulted in stronger company cultures that maximize performance across the organization.

Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente in 2022, Mike served as the Regional Chief Operating Officer, St Louis and Southern Illinois Regions, SSM Health, St Louis, MO from 2018 to 2022; President (2014 to 2018) of SSM Health St Joseph Hospitals in St Louis, MO; Chief Operating Officer and Chief Strategy Officer (2012 to 2014), Central Valley Region of Dignity Health, Bakersfield, CA; Senior Vice President (2006 to 2012) Community Hospital Corporation, Dallas, TX; and various executive roles (1996 to 2005) with Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Houston, TX.

Mike holds both MHA and MBA degrees from the University of Houston at Clear Lake and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Administration. He serves on several community boards.

In his free time, Mike enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife Natalie and is the proud dad of two very successful and beautiful daughters.
