RN Quality Improvement Specialist - Nicklaus Children's Hospital
I am a Registered Nurse Quality Improvement Specialist at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where I have worked for the past nine years. I began my career as a bedside RN in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and transitioned into a quality role in 2024. I am qualified to present because, after identifying a gap in our facility’s stroke response process, I helped convene a multidisciplinary group of key stakeholders to address the need. Together, we developed a standardized stroke pathway to guide timely recognition and management of pediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department with signs and symptoms of stroke, as well as to support identification of stroke in the inpatient setting. Although stroke is uncommon in the pediatric population, the absence of a defined process can contribute to delays in diagnosis and treatment. This pathway helps ensure rapid identification and prompt escalation of care to improve outcomes for our patients.
