Dr Chu currently serves as the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Advocate
Health (AH), the third largest non-profit health system in the nation. Serving 6 million lives
across 6 states with 167,000 team members, With 70 hospitals and over 1000 sites of care, she
oversees enterprise clinical quality, safety and patient experience to ensure a highly reliable
organization to achieve clinical excellence and zero harm. She is focused on driving clinical
excellence through her oversight of chief medical officers in partnership with divisional
presidents and executive nursing. Dr Chu joined Advocate Health in August 2023 as the Chief
Quality and Safety Officer.
Prior to her current role, Dr Chu served as enterprise SVP, Chief Medical Officer for Henry Ford Health in Southeastern Michigan. Her academic role as Breech Endowed Chair, Clinical Quality led to the creation of a Center for Patient Reported Outcomes. Other roles at Henry Ford Health include serving as Associate CCO/Chief Quality Officer where she led development of an enterprise-wide quality index and the organizations’ journey to high reliability. During the COVID epidemic, she led the enterprise response including creating the system incident command and strategic deployment of vaccines.
Dr Chu has been involved in organized medicine and health policy advocacy for almost 30 years. Most notably, she had served as the president of her county and state medical societies. She currently serves as the Chair for the American Medical Association Council on Medical Service.
Her recognitions include The Joint Commission Physician Leadership Award in 2025; Modern Healthcare Innovators Award in 2025; Michigan Women Forward - Women of Achievement and Courage Award 2021; Detroit Business Powered By Women 2020, Esteemed Woman of Michigan in 2018, Crain’s Detroit Business “40 Under 40” in 2010 and the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce Professional Leadership Award. She was appointed in 2020 by Governor Whitmer as the Co-Chair of the Michigan Nursing Homes COVID-19 Preparedness Task Force. In 2018, she served as the President of the Michigan State Medical Society. An active participant in her community, she serves as a trustee for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Zoological Society and a board member for the Zekelman Holocaust Center. In 2024, she was appointed to the Sanger Leadership Institute Advisory Board for Michigan Ross School of Business.
Dr. Chu graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School Premed-Medical program, completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beaumont Health in Royal Oak, and received her MBA from the University of Michigan Ross Business School.
She currently resides in Birmingham, Michigan with her husband, Navot Shoresh and two sons.
