This award recognizes a NAHQ member who has developed a performance improvement program or initiative for a defined group of patients. Luc R. Pelletier served as editor in chief for the Journal for Healthcare Quality from 1998-2007. During his tenure, the journal received many awards and achieved unprecedented growth. Luc has had a distinguished career as an advanced psychiatric mental health nurse and consistently advocates for excellence, expertise and professionalism.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible candidates will be NAHQ members who have actively participated in the creation and implementation of an individual performance improvement project, program or initiative from its inception to completion. The project must have demonstrated the improvement of an organization’s performance and have had a direct effect on the quality of healthcare for a defined group of patients or population.

The project must have been completed during the calendar year (January–December) before the year of the nomination.

Members of the Board, Individual Strategic Advisory Council and Awards Team, Honorary members and NAHQ staff are ineligible for the award during their term of service.

Requirements

All of the requirements listed below must be clearly evidenced in the nominee’s application:

  1. NAHQ member for at least three (3) years.
  2. Resume.
  3. The application may not exceed ten (10) pages, including cover sheet, nomination, deployment process and award information as well as charts, graphs or quality tools for analysis and display purposes. Letters of support are not included in the ten (10) page application limit.
  4. One (1) support letter from a member of the nominee’s organizational leadership or the nominee’s immediate supervisor (a senior leader such as a chief executive officer, chief quality officer or chief nursing officer) must accompany the nomination. The letter should confirm that the nominee was an active participant in the project and was instrumental in its success.
  5. One (1) support letter from a professional colleague involved in the project must accompany the nomination.

**Note: The Nominee must submit two (2) letters in support of his/her application: one from nominee’s organizational leadership and one from a professional colleague. The letters should clearly identify support for the requirements for the award.
