Chief Medical Officer / Vice President of Medical Affairs - Cayuga Medical Center (CMC) and Schuyler Hospital (SH)

Dr. de Lima’s career in medicine began in Brazil, where she trained and worked in the areas of Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Rheumatology.  In addition, she completed an Internal Medicine residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York.  She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and has served as a hospitalist at Cayuga Medical Center since 2009, where she was the Associate Program Director. She has served in multiple leadership roles within Cayuga Medical Center, Cayuga Medical Associates, and Cayuga Health Partners, including Utilization Review Physician Advisor, Department of Medicine Chair, and Vice President of the Medical Staff. In 2021, she became the new Vice President of Medical Affairs at Cayuga Medical Center and continues to perform clinical duties part-time as a hospitalist, bringing valuable front-line input to inform her leadership decisions. In 2023 she became the Chief Medical Officer for CHS hospitals, including Cayuga Medical Center and Schuyler Hospital.

Dr. de Lima has been committed to organizational growth and improvement, so the health system can continue to serve our communities.  She has remained dedicated to delivering high-quality care throughout her tenure through her leadership on numerous initiatives including sepsis, transitions of care, and COVID planning.  As a multilingual physician who has practiced medicine in both Brazil and the US as well as in urban and rural settings, she is able to bring valued insights to the health system as we build programs and deliver care to our diverse population of patients. As part of her ongoing leadership development, Dr. de Lima completed an MBA with an emphasis in Healthcare Administration at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2024.

As of January 2025, in addition to her ongoing responsibilities, Dr. de Lima serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Centralus Health, contributing to the integration process during this important transition.

Dr. de Lima lives in Ithaca with her husband and their son. She is a classically trained pianist, with a special interest in the works of Brahms and Villa-Lobos. She is an avid gardener, passionate about design, hydrangeas, and David Austin’s roses.
