As an NP in the cardiovascular ICU, I have firsthand experience managing post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in critically ill patients and understand its impact on outcomes. Additionally, I have been actively involved in a quality improvement initiative focused on developing a standardized protocol for POAF management, aiming to enhance patient care and reduce complications. Our work combines clinical expertise with data-driven strategies to improve detection, prevention, and treatment. Presenting this topic to the NAHQ audience allows me to share insights on protocol development, implementation challenges, and quality-driven outcomes, contributing to the broader discussion on improving post-surgical care.
