Joy Dyball, MS, RD, CLBB, VHA-CM

National High Reliability Specialist - Department of Veterans Affairs

Joy Dyball brings 20 years of healthcare quality and leadership experience. She is a Registered Dietitian and began her career as an operations manager at Oregon Health and Science University. Leadership development and employee engagement became her passion throughout her experience managing a large staff of supervisors and frontline employees. She began her career with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) at the VA Portland Health Care System in 2014 as a dietitian operations manager in Nutrition and Food Services. During this time, she had the opportunity to complete Lean Green Belt. After implementing many performance improvement projects to improve workflow processes, she joined the Quality, Safety, and Value department as Systems Redesign and Improvement coordinator in 2016. She worked as a Systems Redesign coordinator and moved into the Program Manager role for the team in 2018 after completing her Lean Black Belt. In November 2022, she began work as the facility’s High Reliability Program Director, implementing Tiered Safety Huddles, Leader Rounding, and Safety Forums. As of 2023, she works as a National High Reliability Specialist on the VHA High Reliability Support Team. Joy has a BA from the University of Kansas and her MS in Nutrition from Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. Though originally a Midwesterner, the Pacific Northwest has been home for many years. A true foodie family, she loves exploring the bountiful local cuisine of farmer’s markets, food carts, and roadside diners along with her chef husband and adventurous eater kids.
