I'm a leader in clinical innovation and the implementation of safety improvement initiatives, and I have dedicated my professional life to patient safety, quality, and high reliability systems to elevate safety and quality in health care. I have had a distinguished 40+ year health care career as a pediatric and NICU nurse, nursing informaticist, and executive leader of quality, risk management, and patient safety. As the Quality and Safety executive leader for our health plan, responsible for over 4.5 million members, I lead the direction of quality and safety oversight and management, including reducing health disparities. We design using human-centered design approaches. Under my direction, we have adapted our human-centered design model to structure an approach and embed it in our project management lifecycle method, Equity-Centered Design. With this approach, from inception to design, test, spread, and sustain, we address health disparities to ensure health disparities are mitigated and sustained.
