Executive Vice President, Nursing and Operations Infrastructure - Ascension
Sally Deitch, MSN, MHA, RN, FACHE, Executive Vice President, Nursing and Operations Infrastructure for Ascension, maintains executive responsibility for several pivotal domains. She directs Ascension's nursing practice, operations and regulatory adherence across all care settings. Her leadership also encompasses Operations Infrastructure, Ascension Technologies, The Resource Group, Shared Services, Strategic Integration, Ascension Employed Clinical Network (AECN) Operations, Planning, Design & Construction (PDC), Facilities Management, Safety & Emergency Management, Command Center and Energy & Sustainability. Ms. Deitch serves as the Executive in Charge of OneAscension, the enterprise resource planning system implementation covering Human Resources, payroll, workforce management, finance, and supply chain processes. Through her efforts, she ensures a cohesive operations strategy across Ascension’s hospitals and ambulatory facilities, thereby promoting alignment, collaboration and consistent operational execution.
Rooted in her Catholic values, Sally brings a mission-driven approach to leadership blending clinical excellence with spiritual care, ensuring every decision prioritizes the dignity and well-being of patients, families and caregivers. In less than 15 years, Sally rose from her role as a 22-year-old staff nurse in the operating room and endoscopy department to become a hospital CEO. Her career trajectory is a testament to her dedication, strategic acumen and compassionate leadership.
Sally has held a variety of senior leadership roles, including Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Multi-Facility CEO, Multi-State/Multi-Facility CEO and Corporate CNO. She has served at both HCA Healthcare and Tenet Healthcare, where she consistently led high-performing teams and drove transformational results across diverse markets.
Ms. Deitch is a current member of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Health Association of the United States. She also serves on The Joint Commission Resources Board, the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board, a Board Trustee for Trinity University and a member of the University of Texas Chancellor’s Executive Committee. She is past president of the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives, former chair of the Texas Hospital Association, a past regent-at-large of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and past chair of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
Sally was a recipient of the Corris Boyd Leadership Award by the American Federation of Hospitals, a Distinguished Alumni award by the University of Texas at El Paso - the first recipient of that honor from the College of Nursing, and Trinity University’s Dean Leonard A. Duce Award, in recognition of outstanding leadership and significant contributions to the healthcare field. Most recently Sally was recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the Leading Women of 2025.
She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master’s degree in health care administration from Trinity University, San Antonio.
