Vice President & Chief Quality Officer, Quality and Patient Safety - Jackson Health System
Isis Zambrana is the Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety and Chief Quality Officer for the Jackson Health System, one of the nation’s largest public academic health systems and safety-net providers. A healthcare executive with more than 25 years of leadership experience, she is recognized for advancing quality, patient safety, health equity, regulatory excellence, and organizational transformation across complex healthcare environments.
In her current role, Zambrana provides executive oversight for quality, patient safety, health equity, accreditation and regulatory readiness, infection prevention, performance improvement, external quality reporting, and high reliability operations across Jackson’s network of hospitals, ambulatory care centers, primary care clinics, long-term care facilities, and correctional health services. Throughout her tenure, she has led significant redesign efforts that strengthened quality infrastructure, improved patient outcomes, reduced healthcare-associated harm, enhanced public reporting performance, and advanced organizational accountability for safety and excellence.
A recognized advocate for safer and more reliable healthcare systems, Zambrana spearheaded the development and implementation of Jackson Health System’s enterprise High Reliability Organization (HRO) strategy, including establishing the organization’s dedicated High Reliability Office. Her work has focused on embedding psychological safety, operational learning, leadership accountability, and continuous improvement into daily operations to strengthen safety culture and organizational performance.
Zambrana also contributed to Jackson’s health equity strategy, leveraging social determinants of health and population-level data to identify disparities and advance targeted improvement efforts. Her leadership has helped drive initiatives aimed at improving outcomes among vulnerable populations, including efforts focused on maternal health and reducing preventable harm.
Nationally recognized for her expertise in healthcare quality and patient safety, Zambrana serves on the Leapfrog Hospital Advisory Committee, the Advisory Committee for the Leapfrog Safety Net Hospitals Learning Collaborative, the Florida Hospital Association Quality & Patient Safety Committee, and the American Heart Association Outpatient Quality Improvement Advisory Group. She has also contributed to national quality measurement and governance initiatives through the Partnership for Quality Measurement and IHI/NPSF’s Lucian Leape Institute. A sought-after speaker and thought leader, she has presented at national forums including the Leapfrog Group’s National Health Care Ratings Summit and Leapfrog Annual Meeting and frequently speaks on healthcare quality, patient safety, health equity, leadership, and high reliability.
Zambrana is the recipient of the 2020 Hispanic Women of Distinction Award and previously served as President of the American Heart Association Greater Miami/Fort Lauderdale Metro Board. She earned an Executive MBA in Health Sector Management and Policy from the University of Miami, holds nursing degrees from Southern Adventist University and Western Governors University, and is Certified in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
Beyond healthcare, Zambrana is passionate about philanthropy, education, and the arts. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts and is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Zambrana Music Foundation.
