Structured Continuous Improvement: Unifying QI, Project Management, and Implementation Science
Healthcare quality professionals are experts in measuring improvement — but the profession has lacked a unified execution methodology that integrates QI's measurement rigor, project management's governance discipline, and implementation science's contextual frameworks into a single lifecycle. Structured Continuous Improvement (SCI) is a proposed theoretical framework that fills this gap through a six-phase lifecycle: Discover, Design, Test, Scale, Sustain, and Evolve. SCI introduces evidence gates, four-layer measurement architecture, and dual-axis risk management to address the sustainability and scale-up challenges that remain persistent gaps in current practice. This session introduces SCI theory using a prehospital stroke workflow redesign as a worked application.
