Leadership Rounding Drives 64% CLABSI Reduction
Hospital-acquired infections represented ongoing harm risk in our 864-bed Level I Trauma Center. Guided by data analytics and high-reliability principles, we standardized Lightening Rounds and Daily Nurse Leader Rounds to ensure consistent device necessity review, bundle compliance monitoring, and real-time escalation. Leaders applied audit tools, direct observation, and closed-loop feedback to reduce variation and reinforce accountability. Comparing Q1 FY25 to Q1 FY26, CLABSIs decreased 64% and CAUTIs decreased 11%. Embedding structured leadership visibility strengthened safety culture, improved bundle reliability, and produced sustainable, scalable infection prevention outcomes in a complex, high-acuity setting.
