Improving +C-SSRS Screen Follow-Up in a VA Network Clinical Nurse Triage Service
The session addresses the absence of a standardized process for managing positive Columbia- Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) screenings within a Veterans Affairs (VA) network Clinical Contact Center, and the lack of an auditing mechanism to identify missed or untimely Comprehensive Suicide Risk Evaluation (CSRE) completions. An electronic referral workflow was implemented to streamline +C-SSRS referrals across seven VA network facilities, and a dashboard was developed to monitor timeliness and provide real-time feedback. These interventions improved process reliability and accountability. Initial compliance rates went from a baseline of 40% to exceeding 80% with additional results to be presented.
