The Timeliness Initiative: A Step to Enhance Efficiency of Chemo Daycare Process
Timeliness is a critical factor in the delivery of healthcare, patients undergoing chemotherapy require prompt and efficient start of their treatment to ensure the best possible outcomes. Delays in treatment can result in increased anxiety, discomfort and patient complaints. This initiative helped streamline the scheduling process and also ensure the patients were engaged to ensure the compliance was ensured.
Tool: Flow chart and fishbone helped us identify the causes for the complaints related to the delay in chemo day care process. The interventions helped develop a scheduling application, and engaging of patients and their families. This helped optimizing appointment slots, and ensuring seamless communication between healthcare providers and patients.
Problem: An analysis of the patient feedback over a 3 months period in the chemo day-care unit lead to the following findings:1. Patient complaint related to delay in timely start of Chemo Daycare2. Improper appointment maintenance3. Lack of co-ordination between relevant stakeholders due to unplanned walk-ins
Tool Selection: Fish bone diagrams and flow charts helped identify inefficiencies in chemo daycare processes by visually mapping out root causes and process flows, enabling to identify specific areas of delay and bottlenecks for targeted improvements.
Usage: The tool was used to map the process, identify areas to improve upon. Fish bone diagram also helped us to identify the potential causes that could contribute to the problem that was identified.
Results: The Chemo scheduler revolutionized the way appointments were managed, significantly reducing patient complaints related to delay in start of treatment and enhancing overall satisfaction. This system had streamlined the scheduling process, leading to measurable improvements in both operational efficiency and patient experience.
