PFAC Storytelling to Improve HAI Prevention Practices

Patient and Family Advisory Council–led video storytelling enhances staff awareness of hospital acquired infections by highlighting the human impact of preventable harm. Survey results from frontline and leadership respondents showed increases in awareness, emotional connection, and motivation to follow infection prevention protocols. Qualitative comments emphasized strong resonance with patient experiences, especially pediatric stories, and identified common barriers such as staffing and supply constraints. This session demonstrates how narrative based education can strengthen safety culture, support unit based quality improvement, and promote more consistent infection prevention practices.
